John R. Bagileo has been practicing transportation law for the past 43 years, representing the interests of carriers, shippers, and transportation intermediaries in regulatory matters. He has represented clients before state courts, federal district courts, the Court of Federal Claims, Courts of Appeal and the U.S. Supreme Court, as well as before federal and state transportation regulatory agencies. Bagileo earned the distinction of being one of the nation’s leading transportation attorneys by representing shippers, motor carriers, railroads, and ocean carriers before state and federal courts, and over 20 public service or utilities commissions on diverse transportation issues. He has represented clients in rulemaking proceedings and litigation disputes on regulatory issues, contracts, sale and merger transactions, licensing, safety and legislative enactments that changed the face of transportation regulation.


Bernard Baumohl is chief global economist at The Economic Outlook Group. As an economist, he has been far ahead of the curve in assessing the direction of the U.S. and world economy. Baumohl began his career as an analyst with the Council on Foreign Relations, a think tank specializing on international affairs. He later served as an economist at European American Bank with responsibilities to monitor the global economy and develop forecasts. Baumohl was also TIME magazine's senior economics reporter for two decades. An award-winning journalist, he covered the news from New York, Washington, London and Jerusalem.


Rick D. Blasgen is the president and chief executive officer of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) in Lombard, Illinois, USA. CSCMP was formerly known as the Council of Logistics Management (CLM). Blasgen began his career with Nabisco, working in a regional customer service center in Chicago, Illinois. While at Nabisco, he held various logistics positions of increasing responsibility in inventory management, customer service, order processing, and transportation and distribution center operations management. Blasgen became vice president, supply chain, at Nabisco in June 1998, then vice president supply chain for Kraft in June 2002. He joined ConAgra Foods in August 2003 as senior vice president integrated logistics. Throughout the past 25 years, Blasgen has devoted much of his time to furthering a number of company’s supply chain management programs and initiatives.

David Bradley joined OTA in 1985 and became its president in 1991. In 1997, he was given the added responsibility of chief executive officer of the Canadian Trucking Alliance. Before entering the trucking industry, David was a management consultant with one of the large global consulting firms based in Toronto and a financial markets analyst at a Canadian chartered bank. He has served on numerous federal, provincial and international boards, committees and advisory groups. He has spoken to industry groups around the world and is much sought after by the media.


Kevin Burch has 35 years of experience in the trucking industry, including LTL, TL, Air Freight and consolidation. Since 1990, he has been President of Jet Express, Inc., as well as a partner in the company. Under Kevin’s leadership, Jet Express currently has 90 company drivers, 320 owner-operators and 600 trailers. The company handles over 500 truckloads per day throughout the United States, primarily for the “just-in-time” automotive industry. Providing excellent service, the company was awarded the prestigious “Worldwide Supplier Award” 3 consecutive years. Kevin is currently Chairman of the Truckload Carrier’s Association, based in Alexandria, VA.


Bruce Carlton is the President and CEO of The National Industrial Transportation League, the nation’s oldest and largest national association representing companies engaged in the transportation of goods in domestic and international commerce. Mr. Carlton was previously employed at the United States Department of Transportation where he served as the Assistant Administrator of the Maritime Administration, the senior career executive in the agency. In addition to overall executive management responsibilities, he directed the agency’s international activities, as well as policy development and implementation, legislation, economic analysis and strategic planning.


John Felmy is Chief Economist of API. He is responsible for overseeing economic, statistical and policy analysis of the Institute. He has over twenty-five years experience in energy, economic and environmental analysis. He received Bachelors and Masters in Economics from The Pennsylvania State University and a Ph.D. in Economics from The University of Maryland. John is a member of several professional associations including the American Economics Association and the International Association for Energy Economics.

Jean Godwin is the Executive Vice President and General Counsel of the American Association of Port Authorities, a trade association founded in 1912 that represents the interests of public port agencies in the Western Hemisphere. Before joining AAPA in 1990, Ms. Godwin was the Director of Business Development for Export Network, Inc. Prior to that, she was the Assistant Chief Counsel for Competition Policy for the Office of Advocacy of the U.S. Small Business Administration, specializing in transportation and trade issues.


Alan Gray is the Accenture US Director of Office Sustainability and the Facilities & Services Corporate Citizenship Lead. Alan’s primary focus is on Office Sustainability across the US and also includes Global ISO14001 Certification. He consults regularly with executives from a variety of fields to help create synergistic solutions to world-impacting problems. With more than 180,000 employees, Accenture is the world’s largest consulting company and in September of 2009 Newsweek magazine named Accenture one of the “greenest” companies in America. Alan believes that “going green” can be a “budget neutral” proposition that all companies should take advantage of for a healthier environment and a healthier bottom line.


Tommy Hodges’ “journey” into trucking began on a dock at Tennessee Carolina Transportation (TCT) in 1965. From 1968-1969, Uncle Sam beckoned and Hodges served in Vietnam as a military policeman. After military service, his management career began with a position as a dock supervisor/dispatcher at TCT. In 1976, he worked for Spector Freight Systems as a salesman and subsequently held various positions in the transportation industry, such as sales manager, terminal manager, vice president of sales, president and owner. Currently serving in various leadership roles, Tommy Hodges is on the SMC³ executive committee, was chairman of the Tennessee Trucking Association for two separate terms, and is the president of the Tennessee Trucking Foundation. He is the chairman/owner of Goggin Warehousing LLC and is the current chairman of the American Trucking Associations (ATA).

Rick Keeler is currently Senior Vice President of Strategic Development and Yield Management at Old Dominion freight Line, Inc. During his 16 years at ODFL, he has been responsible for Operations and Sales in the Midwest and the Northeast, Corporate Services, until taking on his present duties in 2006. Keeler's background includes 38 years in the LTL business with a background in accounting, IT, operations, administration and pricing. He has been a Board Member at SMC³ since 1999.


Jon A. Langenfeld is a Managing Director, Senior Research Analyst with Robert W. Baird & Company, covering transportation and logistics providers including the third-party logistics providers, integrators, truckers and leasing companies. He has been recognized by Greenwich Associates as the “Most Knowledgeable” analyst in the transportation and logistics space and by Forbes as among the “Top Equity Analysts - Best Earnings Estimators” in his sectors. Mr. Langenfeld frequently appears on CNBC and other financial media outlets providing insights on the transportation space.

Patrick Larkin practices exclusively in environmental law, including regulatory compliance, litigation, administrative law, and environmental counseling in business transactions. Pat regularly represents industrial clients in air, water and waste permitting, compliance counseling and audits, voluntary site cleanups, government enforcement actions, and in agency rulemaking and associated stakeholder and guidance writing work groups. His 20 years of experience includes in-house, agency and private practice. He was in-house environmental counsel for a Fortune 100 company with over 300 U.S. and international operating sites and subsidiaries. Mr. Larkin was a Regional Enforcement Attorney with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. He has prosecuted and defended administrative and judicial enforcement actions brought under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Toxic Substances Control Act.

Ken Manning earned BBA and MBA degrees from George Washington University and worked for Ford Motor Company, American Trucking Associations and Middle Atlantic Conference, lastly as Director of Economics and Cost Analysis. In 1976, Ken opened his own transportation consultancy, Kenneth M. Manning and Associates. In 1982, he founded Transportation Consulting Group, Inc., now Transportation Costing Group, Inc., which has become the premier supplier of Activity-Based Costing software to the trucking industry.


Dave Miller, a 34-year veteran of the freight trucking industry, is Senior Vice President, Global Policy and Economic Sustainability for Con-way Inc. In this role, he is responsible for directing all of Con-way’s strategies and programs related to legislative, regulatory, public policy and corporate sustainability affairs at local, state, national and international levels. Mr. Miller was named the company’s top policy executive in 2008, joining the corporate executive staff from Con-way Freight, the company’s less-than-truckload motor carrier and largest subsidiary, where since 2007 he served as chief operating officer.

Paul Page has been an editor, reporter and columnist in the world of transportation, logistics and trade since 1991 and garnered awards in the field from the American Society of Business Press Editors and Folio. He became editorial director of The Journal of Commerce in February 2009 and launched a redesign and restructuring of the publication that included a merger with its sister publication, Traffic World, UBM Global Trade’s award-winning domestic transportation news weekly. He was editor-in-chief of Traffic World from 2003 to 2009, and was also editor of the monthly Air Cargo World magazine from 1996 until 2009. He began his career at the Washington bureau of The Associated Press, where he worked for 10 years covering national and local government and politics.


Ray Penn is a consultant with ORTEC in Atlanta, GA, where he supports customers in their implementation and deployment of route optimization solutions to improve their supply chain performance. He has more than 20 years experience in the area of Traffic, Transportation, Distribution and has worked in virtually every facet of the motor carrier industry, on both the carrier and shipper sides of the business. Additionally, his expertise with EDI solutions and environments has been instrumental in the utilization of EDI applications in many customer organizations. Mr. Penn holds both Bachelor of Science and Masters of Business Administration degrees from Rollins College located in Winter Park, Florida.


Donald Ratajczak, Ph.D., is emeritus professor of the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University and consulting economist for leading businesses and governmental agencies. Ratajczak is one of the world’s most celebrated economists and a primary source of economic forecasting information. His analyses of business cycles, international trade, economic forecasting and Federal Reserve policy are featured regularly on CNN, CNBC and in major print media. Hailed the nation’s “top economic guru” by BusinessWeek magazine, Ratajczak is a recipient of the prestigious Blue Chip award for forecasting accuracy.


Larry Sabato is "probably the most quoted college professor in the land" and his Crystal Ball electoral analysis is the nation's most accurate according to the Wall Street Journal. In July 2008, Dr. Sabato correctly projected that Barack Obama would win the presidency in a near-landslide. He predicted a 364-174 margin in the Electoral College, just one vote away from the final tally of 365-173, as well as the correct popular vote percentages. He also accurately predicted 99% of Senate, House, and Governor winners-by far the best showing in the business. His spectacular record of predicting elections is not new. In 2006, for example, he was named the most accurate prognosticator by an unusual combination of news organizations: FOX News, MSNBC, CNBC, and Pew's Project for Excellence in Journalism.

Dave K. Sanderson is the inspirational survivor of the “Miracle on the Hudson.” Today, he is responsible for the sales, management and marketing of Oracle Corporation’s applications to the CPG/Wholesale Distribution industry segment in the Southeast United States. He focuses on helping corporate officers enhance profitability, improve shareholder equity, and improved process efficiency by consulting with executives to align information technology strategies with their corporate business plans and goals. He has over 25 years of sales and marketing management experience with firms such as Marriott, ADP, KPMG, Bearingpoint, Keane, and CIBER. Sanderson spends much of his time helping non-profit organizations and individuals obtain their desired outcomes by learning unique time management skills and helping them understand what drives “change into progress.”


Danny Slaton is senior vice president of business development for SMC³. Slaton is highly recognized within the transportation community and is regularly sought out for dialogue and insight regarding issues surrounding transportation pricing. His extensive background, which has involved regular communications with carriers, shippers, logistics service providers and technology developers, has given him an industry knowledge base and expertise that includes LTL benchmarking and pricing dynamics. He has been instrumental in the research, development and sales strategy for many flagship products at SMC³.


Kevin Smith is a career supply chain practitioner and the President and CEO of Sustainable Supply Chain Consulting. Kevin is the former Senior Vice President and Corporate Sustainability Officer CVS Caremark and Senior Vice President of Supply Chain & Logistics for CVS/pharmacy. Prior to joining CVS Caremark, Kevin spent 27 years in CPG food manufacturing; most notably as Vice President of Logistics and Customer Support at H.J. Heinz; and at Kraft Foods where he held numerous positions, including Director of Network Design and Implementation.

Jerry Stoll’s professional career has consisted of a full range of product/service marketing concepts in the logistics industry. He has over 6 years of experience in the logistics industry, with the majority of it being in the areas of marketing and strategic planning. Prior to joining METTLER TOLEDO, he held various marketing positions including marketing and communications at Midwest Express Inc., a Honda Motor Company subsidiary. Jerry joined METTLER TOLEDO in 2006 as a Marketing Manager for Transportation and Logistics division. His current position requires him to develop and implement strategic programs for weighing and dimensioning solutions throughout the supply chain including trucking terminals, air cargo firms and distribution centers.


Bob Voltmann was named President & CEO of the Transportation Intermediaries Association In June of 1997. TIA is the only organization representing the interests of North American transportation intermediaries of all disciplines: brokers, domestic freight forwarders, air forwarders, international forwarders, logistics management companies, intermodal marketing companies, and perishable commodity brokers. Prior to joining TIA, Bob was the Director of Policy for the National Industrial Transportation League. Before his NIT League position, Bob was appointed by President George Bush to serve as Chief of Staff to Interstate Commerce Commissioner Ed Emmett. Prior to coming to Washington, Bob worked for two economic development and area planning associations in Houston, Texas. Bob has also worked as staff director for a committee of the Texas House of Representatives, and as a political consultant.
